Bac Kan promotes the exploitation of turmeric

As a plant variety suitable for local soil and soil condi-tions, over the years, yellow glutinous turmeric has been encouraged by Bac Kan province to become a key agricultural product.

Bac Kan is a province with great potential for development, but it still faces difficulties in effectively exploiting abundant raw materials.

Pursuant to the Prime Minister's Decision No. 36/2021/QD-TTg dated December 13, 2021 on the criteria for identifying poor districts and communes with special difficulties in the lowlands, coastal areas and islands in the period of 2021 - 2025, Bac Kan province is on the list of the poorest localities in our country. Ac-cordingly, despite being famous for many natural resources and minerals rich in economic development potential as well as countless scenic spots and land-scapes imbued with regional cultural identities, the province still has difficulties in exploiting available natural resources; The process of eliminating the gap be-tween the rich and the poor and improving the incomes of the people living in the highlands and ethnic minorities is still limited.

Grasping the direction and policy of the province on building and developing sustainable agriculture; optimizing cultivation area and source of irrigation mate-rials; concentrating on selection of plant varieties with high value chains to be-come key economic spearheads; serving the needs of Vietnamese people and in-ternational exports, etc., many local businesses have paid attention and selected suitable plant varieties to develop production and business. In particular, Red Turmeric is a good growing plant variety, suitable for local soil conditions, which is encouraged by Bac Kan province to become a key agricultural product.

The enterprise's turmeric products received a 4-star OCOP rating from the appraisal board of the Provincial People's Committee.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), by 2020, the total area of Bac Kan turmeric cultivation is 200ha with an estimated output of about 4,600 tons. By 2021, the local raw material area continued to in-crease by 50 hectares (reaching 250 hectares) and the output is approximately 5,000 tons (up 400 tons).
